Josslin Insurance Helps Rebuild after Goderich Tornado
On the afternoon of Sunday, August 21, it took only minutes for an F-3 tornado to devastate the town of Goderich, once called the “prettiest town in Canada”. Its iconic courthouse square was shredded, the building itself standing naked among the splintered remains of century-old trees that used to hide it from the street. Many of the buildings surrounding it were missing their roofs, or entire upper stories. By the next morning, we at Josslin had identified all of our clients who may have been affected by the tornado and were making efforts to contact them. By the third day, we were able to track down and make contact with everyone begin the process of rebuilding.
While we were making contact with our clients, the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) was on-site, helping residents and businesses understand what type of emergency funds and assistance were available to them under their policies, and showing them how to access the help they needed.
A month later, the damage estimate is pegged at $75 million. A significant portion of that belongs to Josslin clients, both commercial and residential, including the total loss of a house that was shifted off its foundation by the massive winds.
The recovery isn’t over and may still take some time due to the amount of damage, especially considering the limited availability of tradespeople in the area. But Josslin Insurance, and the steadfast companies we represent, will continue to provide support for affected clients, proud to be able to be there for them, and proud to help rebuild their community.
