We at Josslin Insurance Brokers are very pleased to announce that Kate’s Kause, the project we have been championing for the past few months, has won the Aviva Community Fund Challenge! At 8 am on January 25th, during a broadcast of Canada AM, Aviva announced that Kate’s Kause will receive the full $60,000 they asked for which will go towards building an accessible playground in Elmira. They break ground in May and hope to have it completed in time for Kate’s 3rd birthday on June 21st.

Afterward, Kelly Meissner posted this message on Facebook: “How do I even begin to say thank you for a day like today? Today AVIVA is making dreams come true. We are so honoured to have our dream of an inclusive playground become a reality. Thank you to Aviva, all of our friends and family and amazing supporters. Thank you for joining us on this journey. We couldn't have done it without you!”

About the Aviva Community Fund

Launched in September 2009, the Aviva Community Fund encourages Canadians to visit www.AvivaCommunityFund.org to share ideas and vote for causes that are meaningful to their communities. After several rounds of voting to identify Canada's favourite ideas, a panel of independent judges is tasked with reviewing the causes and selecting the winners. "We're proud to be able to support such a great group of organizations in their efforts to improve communities across Canada," said Maurice Tulloch, President and CEO of Aviva Canada. "We'd like to thank our broker partners who stepped up and got involved in the competition this year, along with our vendors and all Canadians that supported the Aviva Community Fund."

This year, a total of $1,000,000 will be awarded to twelve diverse local projects, including school yards in Ontario and Alberta, an animal rescue facility in British Columbia and a youth camp in Quebec, but the cause that was closest to the hearts of us at Josslin Insurance Brokers, the project that had us hanging up posters and voting every day was our own local cause: Kate’s Kause.

About Kate’s Kause

Kate’s Kause is an organization inspired by Kate Meissner, a sweet little two-year-old from Elmira who has Angelman Syndrome. It is a 100% charitable organization committed to Angelman Syndrome awareness and fundraising for inclusive community projects. For the past couple years, they’ve been raising money to build a playground in Elmira that is entertaining and accessible for children of all abilities. Kate’s Kause has gotten a huge amount of community support, having been in the paper a number of times, and hosting a number of successful fundraisers, but this win has given them the money to finally realize their dream of having a playground where Kate and children of all abilities are able to play and learn together.
