Josslin Insurance Celebrates 50 Years of Family Ownership Through Volunteerism and Donating $50,000 to Local Charities
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – DECEMBER 24, 2025
NEW HAMBURG, ON – This year marks the 50th anniversary that Don Wagler purchased Josslin Insurance. Though Don sadly passed in 2020, his sons, Scott and Steve Wagler are celebrating this milestone by donating $50,000 to ten worthy organizations close to their offices as chosen by their employees.
A local insurance brokerage, Josslin Insurance was originally established in 1880 by Louis Peine, a schoolboard trustee and reeve of New Hamburg. The business changed hands through the 30’s to 60’s, but was purchased by J.B. Josslin for whom the business is named. When Don Wagler bought the brokerage, be decided to keep the Josslin name as it was already recognizable in the community.
In the Spring, it was announced that the company would be donating the $50,000 and staff members were asked to nominate their favourite local not-for-profit organizations based in the communities surrounding the Josslin offices – Cambridge, Elmira, Gorrie, Kitchener, Listowel, New Hamburg, Tavistock and Wellesley.
After staff voted for their favourites, the top ten were announced. One winner was “school food programs in North Perth and Howick”, which was split into smaller donations to help do the most good in the community. What followed next was a whirlwind tour of cheque donations throughout the month of December.
Recipients in Waterloo Region included the Woolwich Counselling Centre ($5,000) and Woolwich Community Services ($5,000) in Elmira, Strong Start ($5,000) in Waterloo, the Food Bank of Waterloo Region ($5,000) and the Child Witness Centre ($5,000) in Kitchener, and the Cambridge Food Bank ($5,000) in Cambridge. In New Hamburg, staff chose the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC)’s Meat Cannery ($5,000) and the Wilmot & Wellesley Resource Centre ($5,000).
Listowel area recipients were the Salvation Army’s Hope Links program ($5,000) and the Nutrition Programs at Listowel Eastdale Public School ($1,000), St. Mary’s Catholic School ($1,000), North Perth Westfield Elementary School ($1,000), and Elma Township Public School ($1,000).
Gorrie staff selected the Howick Optimist Club ($5,000) and the Nutrition Program at Howick Central Public School ($1,000).
Making this impact even greater, Josslin has committed holding corporate volunteering events at six local organizations including the Mennonite Central Committee’s Meat Cannery in New Hamburg on December 2nd and the Listowel Salvation Army’s annual Sort & Pack on December 9th. Early in the new year, they plan to volunteer at the KW Humane Society, the Food Bank of Waterloo Region, Strong Start to reading, and a Nutrition Program at a Listowel school.
“Supporting the communities that have helped us thrive over the last 50 years is important to Steve and I.” Says Scott Wagler, brokerage partner, “supporting the communities where we all live and work is a central value of our organization. We wouldn’t be celebrating this milestone without them so we wanted to show our thanks in the ways that would do them the most good.”
