Josslin Insurance Brokers Limited traces its beginnings back to 1880, making it one of the oldest continuously operated general insurance brokers in this part of Ontario. It was founded in 1880 in New Hamburg, Ontario by Louis Peine, who operated the business until his untimely death. It had several owners until 1953, when John B. Josslin acquired a partnership interest. After one year, Josslin bought the partnership. Josslin continued until, in preparation for his retirement, sold the business on January 1, 1975 to Donald C. Wagler, who had 10 years experience in the Life Insurance business. Josslin continued on in a reduced capacity for several years during the transition. In 1977 Don’s wife, Rose joined the business as a licensed insurance broker. It has operated as a family business since then.

In 1984 the Kennedy & Klann Brokerage in Tavistock was acquired and, merging it with Josslin Insurance Brokers Limited, we continue to operate an office at this location. In January, 1988 Josslin Insurance Brokers Limited purchased the Lloyd A. Gascho Insurance Brokerage in Kitchener and moved that office to its present location at 1082 Weber Street East.

Sons Scott and Steven joined the operation following their graduation from university in the early 1990s. Currently Steven spends most of his time in the Kitchener office, working on Commercial Lines, while Scott is primarily in New Hamburg. Both have become shareholders and will eventually take over control of the operation.

In April 2003, Josslin Insurance Brokers Limited purchased the Dineen Insurance Brokerage, formerly in the Frederick Street mall and moved that office into our current Kitchener location.

On October 1, 2003 the Wellesley branch of Huronview Insurance became the newest member of the Josslin Insurance family.

Today our 4 offices employ 32 people. Every one of our CSR staff members is a RIBO licensed insurance broker. Throughout the year our staff members are continuously updating their knowledge of the ever-changing insurance practices. Our staff are very “customer focussed” and pride themselves on the fact that we have a very high ratio of customer retention, in many instances generations of the same families. Currently our customer retention rate is over 95%. We believe a major factor in this retention rate is due to our strong emphasis on professional customer service.

Although we support automation and “state of the art technology” where it helps us provide better service for our customers, we do not feel that automated telephone answering or voice mail helps us achieve this. We do have an after-hours answering service and can be reached 24 hours a day.
